In the cabin, a redesigned instrument cluster features a new, larger thin-film transistor screen with a variety of user-selectable displays. The rear entertainment system gets a new ceiling-mounted 10.2-inch screen. Touring and Elite trims can also get a 4G LTE-based Wi-Fi hotspot.
Wireless charging is also available for the first time on the Elite and available as a dealer-installed accessory on EX, EX-L, and Touring trims. So, too, is hands-free power tailgate on the Pilot on Touring and Elite trims.
Also new for 2019: CabinControl on Pilot EX and above trims. Using an app, passengers can use their smartphones to control a range of Pilot features. CabinTalk is included on Pilot EX-L models with navigation and rear-seat entertainment, Touring and Elite trims.
Audio System Update
Honda’s also updated the Pilot’s audio system with a new available 8-inch Display Audio system with a new volume knob. Standard in EX trims and above, Honda says the system is simpler to use.
It includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, and HondaLink content in Touring and Elite trims. The top-level models also get an updated 10-speaker 590-watt system with a subwoofer.
Honda says it’s refined the Pilot’s 9-speed automatic transmission, available on the Touring and Elite models, to make it shift smoother. (The lower trims are equipped with a 6-speed.) Honda also says the upgraded Idle Stop system provides quicker restarts and isn’t as noticeable.
Honda Sensing and Blind Spot Monitoring
Honda’s Sensing safety suite now comes standard across the lineup. It includes Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS™) with Forward Collision Warning; Road Departure Mitigation; Lane Keeping Assist System; and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC).
Honda is also making blind spot information system standard on more trims. Previously available only on the Elite trim, it’s now standard on EX, EX-L and Touring trims as well. Rear Cross Traffic Monitor has been expanded from the Touring and Elite trims to EX and EX-L.
The base model 2019 Pilot LX with standard front-wheel drive starts from $32,445 including destination and handling. The range tops out with the Pilot Elite for $49,015.
