2021 Nissan Titan Pro-4X Review

This week we are taking a look at the 2021 Nissan Titan Pro-4X half-ton pickup. This truck was completely redone for the 2020 model year, but was largely unchanged for 2021.

Exterior

To me, the looks of this truck are terrific and the changes last year made it look less like the Ford F-150. The Pro-4X features sharp 18” alloy wheels and meaty all-terrain tires. You’ll notice orange accents around the truck which are unique to the Pro-4X.

Powertrain

Pop the hood and you’ll find a 5.6-liter V8 putting out 400-horses and 413 pound-feet of torque. It is mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. By the way, this is the only engine available in the new Titan.

Interior

One of the big improvements to the Titan is the interior, it’s much nicer than in years past. Comfortable seats greet you with the Pro-4X logo embroidered on them as well as the floor mats. You’ll find orange stitching on the seats, the door panels, the center console, and across the dash. Look up and you’ll see a massive panoramic moonroof with a power sliding cover.

As you sit in the driver’s seat, the colorful gauge cluster is large and you can configure the center section to give you information you need including some cool 4X4 gauges and traffic sign recognition.

The center console is large and you can change the configuration of it by switching the cup holders closer or farther from you. The big console is mostly due to the fact that the gear shifter is old school and up on the steering column. There are controls for the heated and air-conditioned front seats, trailer brake controller, and a couple of USB ports.

Above the console is a 9” color touchscreen that operates everything. You control your phone, the sound system, navigation, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi hotspot, Apple Carplay, Android Auto, SiriusXM, and a host of apps including real-time weather, traffic, fuel prices, stock prices, and sports scores. I love that there are knobs for radio volume and channel tuning.

Utility

Moving to the back seat, which is massive, you have tremendous head and legroom. The bottom of the seats fold up to reveal huge lockable storage areas, or you can fold the top of the seats down. Back seat passengers get rear air vents, USB ports, heated rear seats, and a 120-volt power outlet.

Standard Features and Options

This package comes loaded with a lot of standard safety equipment like automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, blind-spot warning, rear cross traffic alert, forward collision warning, and adaptive cruise control.

This model also comes with standard comfort and convenience features such as power front seats, keyless entry with remote start, rear seat reminder, spray-in bedliner, front tow hooks, and LED headlights and fog lights.

Options include parking sensors, power rear window, 12-speaker Fender stereo, heated power tilt steering wheel, the big moon roof, and the leather seating.

Ride and Drive

This Titan is extremely quiet inside, the 4-wheel drive system is very capable, and the truck handles and rides very well.

Fuel Economy, Towing and What You’ll Pay

Fuel economy is normal for a large truck at 15 in town and 20 on the highway. Towing capacity is 10,800 pounds, which is lower than comparable Ford, Chevy, and Ram half-tons.

MSRP on this loaded truck is $60,640 and that puts it below the other similarly equipped half-ton trucks out there. Nissan also keeps the factory incentives very aggressive on Titan.

I’d be remiss not to mention this truck comes with a 5-year, 100,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty, by far the best in the industry.

I’ll be honest, I’ve not been a fan of this truck for many years, but this one is impressive and for the money, it’s a great value.
