Now here is a car rental like no other.
Ford, Shelby American and Hertz are teaming up on a 2016 Ford Shelby GT-H you can rent beginning Memorial Day weekend. That’s right, it’s available as a rental car only and only at specific Hertz airport locations. If that wasn’t limited enough, Ford says only 140 of them will be built. So we’re talking super-exclusive rentals.
The 50th anniversary edition is in honor of the original Rent-A-Racer program of the 1960s. The GT-H is based on the 2016 Mustang GT with a V8 under the hood and some aftermarket parts to take things up a notch. It will be officially unveiled March 22 at the New York Auto Show.
As you can see in the video, it’s black with gold stripes from hood to trunk to signify the Hertz livery. The special edition also adds special touches like a vented hood, rear spoiler and a carbon fiber front splitter. GT-H badging is a given, of course. You’ll see badges on the grille and the trunk lid, as well as on the headrests, sill plates and floor mats. GT-H badging comes on the center caps of black 19-inch wheels as well.
The Ford Shelby GT-H also gets the Ford Racing Handling Pack. That means lower springs, retuned dampers, and new sway bars.
No word yet on a daily rate to rent one of these pony cars. It’s part of the company’s “Adrenaline Collection” of sports cars in “select” airports. Stay tuned for more details.
