All-New 2019 Ram 1500 Adds Hybrid Tech, Massive Touchscreen

The all-new 2019 Ram 1500 is here and bringing some big changes to the lineup. None the least of which includes more towing capacity, a mild hybrid system on updated versions of its V6 and V8 Hemi engines and an out-of-this-world huge 12-inch infotainment display.

Here are some of the highlights of Ram�s all-new 1500 redesign:

1. It�s Lighter with Massive New Front Brakes.

The new 1500 is 225 pounds lighter overall than the outgoing model. Ram did it using more high-strength steel in the body, along with the use of aluminum in the tailgate. The brawnier, longer and wider new Ram also adds 14.9-inch front brakes.

2. A New Mild Hybrid System Adds Torque.

An all-new eTorque hybrid system delivers improved fuel efficiency in both V-6 and Hemi V-8 versions. It adds up to 90 lb.-ft. of torque to the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 and up to 130 lb.-ft. to the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8. No change to horsepower on either engine. The V6 still rates 305 horsepower and the Hemi V8 rates 395 HP. Ram says the 8-speed transmission is more efficient, too. But still no official fuel economy numbers yet.

3. It Can Tow More.

Maximum payload on the Ram 1500 increases to 2,300 pounds, and maximum trailer tow to 12,750 pounds.

4. There�s a New 4�4 Off-Road Package.

The package includes suspension with one-inch lift, electronic locking rear axle, tuned shocks and Hill-descent Control. New electronic locking rear differential is standard on 4�4 Off-road Package along with the Ram Rebel.

5. It Adds 12.4-Inch Touchscreen.

If an 8.4″ touchscreen doesn�t do it for you, Ram has a little something else you�ll like. It�s the lineup�s first 12-inch touchscreen. The available portrait-style split-touchscreen features Uconnect apps along with available 360-degree camera views, 3D navigation system and SiriusXM exclusive 360L personalized content. The fourth-gen Uconnect system includes 4G Wi-Fi hotspot capability. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay enable link with both the Uconnect 8.4-inch and 12-inch touchscreens.

6. It Does Not Go Short On Audio.

The new 1500 comes with a Harman Kardon audio system with 19 premium speakers, 900-watt surround sound amplifier, 10-inch subwoofer, and active noise cancelation. Ram says it�s also made the cabin quieter in general, too.

7. There Is No Shortage of Safety Offerings.

Available safety features include Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning, Blind Spot Monitoring and ready alert braking. It also offers Ready Alert Braking and Trailer-sway Damping control, LaneSense Lane Departure Warning-Plus, and ParkSense Parallel/Perpendicular Park and Hill-start Assist.

8. There Is No Shortage of Trims, Either.

Ram will offer its 1500 in Tradesman, Bighorn, Rebel, Laramie, Laramie Longhorn, and Limited trims. No official pricing yet. The new Ram lineup will come down the assembly line in Sterling Heights, Michigan and roll dealerships later this year.
