Automatic Braking in Cars to be Standard by 2022

Big news when it comes to automotive safety.

Major carmakers say theyíll make automatic braking systems standard on most vehicles by September, 2022. Itís a deal the National Highway Transportation Safety Administrationís had in the works since last fall. At that time, there was a deal in principle with 10 automakers.

More details about automatic braking are expected in a formal announcement Thursday. However, according to Automotive News, the deal includes automakers representing more than 99 percent of U.S. light vehicle sales. Automakers joining the deal include Toyota Motor Corp., General Motors, Ford Motor Co., Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Honda Motor Co. and Volkswagen AG. The report comes via Reuters who quotes three sources briefed on the plans.
