Ford Motor Co. is postponing the introduction of its Bronco SUV by four days after word got out that its previous unveiling just happened to fall on the same day as the birthday of O.J. Simpson.
You may recall that in 1994, Simpson was infamously riding in a white Bronco along Los Angeles freeways being driven by his longtime friend Al Cowlings. Coverage of the chase was covered live by every major TV news station in America. Simpson was attempting to flee police as he faced charges of murdering his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend. His birthday, July 9, happened to be the Bronco's planned reveal date.
That has now been moved to July 13.
My friend, Ford spokesperson Mark Truby said the automaker was adamant the July 9 date was "purely coincidental."
UPDATE: The reveal of the all-new Ford Bronco lineup will now happen on Monday, July 13. The previous targeted date of July 9 unintentionally coincided with O.J. Simpsonís birthday. We wanted to be sensitive and respectful of this concern.
