Ford Confirms Hybrid Mustang, F-150, All-Electric SUV

Ford is kicking off 2017 in a big way.

Tuesday the automaker confirmed seven out of 13 new electric vehicles it plans to add to the lineup over the next five years. They include a hybrid Mustang, F-150 pickup along with two hybrid police vehicles. An all-electric SUV is also in the works.

Here are more specifics on the seven electric vehicles announced Tuesday:
  • All-Electric SUV: An all-new fully electric small SUV is due to arrive by 2020. It will have an estimated range of at least 300 miles and will be built at Fordís Flat Rock plant in Michigan.
  • Autonomous Ride-Sharing Vehicle: A high-volume autonomous vehicle designed for commercial ride hailing or ride sharing is also on the way and North America will be the first to get it. The hybrid vehicle will debut in 2021.
  • Hybrid F-150: A hybrid version of the best-selling F-150 pickup will be on the road by 2020. The F-150 Hybrid, built at Fordís Dearborn Truck Plant, will also operate as a mobile generator
  • Hybrid Mustang: A hybrid version of the Mustang will deliver V8 power and even more low-end torque. The Mustang Hybrid will be built at the Flat Rock Plant and debuts in 2020.
  • Plug-In Transit: A Transit Custom plug-in hybrid will hit the road in 2019 in Europe.
  • 2 Hybrid Police Vehicles: Ford will also roll out two new, pursuit-rated hybrid police vehicles over the next five years. One of them will be built in Chicago.
Also when it comes to hybrids, Ford says its global utility lineup will be the companyís first hybrids powered by EcoBoost rather than naturally aspirated engines.

This year, Ford will also test a fleet of 20 Transit Connect hybrid taxi and van prototypes in New York and several other major cities. In Europe, Ford will put the Transit Custom plug-in hybrid on the road later this year. The vans are based on the Ford Escape Hybrid.

Ford says itís sold more than 520,000 electrified vehicles in North America since 2005 and 560,000 globally.
