Many thanks to all who played our recent Facebook contest to win a nice pack of Meguiar’s car care products. Two weeks ago we had people guessing the final price of a classic 1970 Mustang at Mecum Auctions. Last week, we had you guessing at the gavel price of a Buick Grand National at Barrett-Jackson.
We did have a snafu, however. I had calculated the Grand National would run through the auction between 1 PM and 2 PM last Saturday, so we could follow along with it while on the air. I had it timed right, the car ran right at 1 PM Central, but it was the wrong car.
Yes, it was a different Grand National, a 1987 GNX that had a great history and sold for $70,000. The car we had a link to was a 1986 regular Grand National that had a checkered past, that sold for $16,000.
Trying to do this while on the air turned out to be a mistake. We declared five winners who guessed closest to $70,000 but our listeners let us know quickly there was a mistake.
Therefore, we also declared five additional winners closest to the $16,000 guess. It was just the right thing to do.
Even with the issues and confusion, it was a fun contest that people seemed to enjoy. We’ll do it again in the future, and again, thank you to all who played. Special thanks to my friends at www.MEGUIARS.com for making the contest possible.
