Toyota is rolling out its 2022 model lineup which includes the new U.S. market 2022 Corolla Cross compact SUV. Toyota’s engineering and design teams have clearly been busy working on new versions and trims of many of the lineup’s models including the Supra, 86, Highlander, 4Runner, Tacoma and of course the all-new next generation Tundra, which it is still keeping under wraps.
Here’s a rundown of the latest Toyota product news announced late last week, but sorry, no picture of the all-new Tundra:
2022 Toyota Corolla Cross
The Corolla Cross is coming to America after already being sold overseas. Based on the sedan, it’s available in front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions and comes equipped with a 169-horsepower, 2.0-liter Dynamic Force Engine. Every Corolla Cross is capable of towing up to 1,500 lbs. Wheel options range from 17-inch steel on L to 18-inch alloy on XLE. The Cross can be outfitted with a power moonroof, as well as either single- or dual-zone automatic climate control, with all grades featuring standard heating and air conditioning vents for rear seat passengers. SofTex-trimmed seating is also available, as is a 10-way, power-adjustable driver’s seat with lumbar and heated front seats.
2022 Toyota GR 86
Exciting news for the 2+2 rear-wheel drive Toyota 86, as it now adds an all-new 2022 Toyota Gazoo Racing badged model to its lineup. With it comes enhanced handling and exterior aerodynamics, increased power, along with an upgraded interior. A 2.4L naturally aspirated, horizontally opposed four-cylinder boxer engine increases power from 205 to 228-hp and torque from 156 to 184 lb.-ft. It’s available with a 6-speed manual or an automatic transmission and its curbweight is just over 2,800 pounds. We’re fans of the fun-to-drive Toyota 86 already so we can’t wait for the GR badged-version.
2022 Toyota GR Supra A91-CF Edition
We’re also fans of the Toyota Supra which returned to the lineup a couple of years ago. The 2022 lineup adds a limited edition GR Supra A91-CF (Carbon Fiber) Edition. Limited to just 600 vehicles, this 2022 special edition is the most exclusive Mark V Supra to date. Toyota says it offers all the style, performance and technology you expect, with an obsessive attention to detail that fits a racing legend. With the bold, sleek look of carbon fiber accents and a duckbill spoiler, Toyota predicts this eye-grabbing new limited-run special edition will sell fast.
2022 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro
Toyota is introducing two new updates to the Tacoma lineup. The next-gen Tacoma TRD PRO receives some major suspension changes. They include TRD-tuned Fox internal bypass shocks designed to deliver exceptional on- and off-road performance, but the crucial suspension change will be a taller suspension lift – 1.5 inches up front and 0.5 inches at the rear. It also comes with new TRD wheels that offer a wider track width. They are fitted with Goodyear Territory all-terrain tires. The new exclusive TRD Pro color, Electric Lime Metallic, is added to the mix of Super White, Magnetic Gray Metallic and Midnight Black Metallic for the 2022 model year.
2022 Toyota Tacoma Trail Edition
2022 sees the return of the Tacoma Trail Edition, which was first introduced last year. Toyota says the emphasis here is on storage, styling, value, and a focus on off-road performance built around the Tacoma 4×4 Double Cab. They’ve added lockable bed storage and the driver’s side storage area doubles as an insulated cooler. Lunar Rock is added to its 2022 color palette andit rides on new Bronze-Finished 16-inch wheels. Like the TRD PRO, they also offer a wider track width and are fitted with Goodyear tires.
2022 Toyota 4Runner TRD Sport
As a Toyota lineup mainstay for nearly 40 years, for 2022, the 4Runner lineup expands with the addition of TRD Sport, offering an exceptional combination of style and performance. Similar to its mid-size truck sibling the Tacoma, 4Runner adds TRD Sport grade to complement TRD Off-Road and TRD Pro, but where TRD Off-Road and Pro add trail-ready features designed for tackling the toughest terrain, TRD Sport adds style, flair and some road-worthy upgrades.
2022 Toyota Highlander Bronze Edition
This is one SUV that would get our attention coming down the road. It’s the new Highlander Hybrid Bronze Edition, available in either Cement (exclusive to Bronze Edition) or Wind Chill Pearl (new for 2022 Highlander). It includes bronze-colored accents on exterior and interior, including 18-inch bronze wheels, bronze interior stitching, illuminated bronze door sills, and mid-century modern-inspired SofTex-trimmed seats with fabric insert and bronze stitching. It also comes with exclusive, unique floor and cargo mats embroidered with a special bronze logo.
