You knew it was just a matter of time, right? The Toyota Prius is joining Toyota’s growing Nightshade family. It’s the 11th model, and first hybrid, in the Nightshade lineup. The Prius special edition will arrive this fall as a 2022 model and will be available on both the FWD and AWD-e grades.

The Prius Nightshade will be available in three colors: Midnight Black Metallic, Super White, or Silver Metallic. Unique exterior features include black headlight accents, mirror caps, door handles, color keyed rear deck spoiler and shark fin antenna. The FWD version rides on 17-inch five-spoke alloy wheels. You get 15-inch on the AWD-e, paired with black inserts and lug nuts.

The cabin features Toyota’s SofTex-trimmed, power adjustable front seats. The FWD model’s driver’s seat is heated with eight-way power adjustable controls and lumbar support while the passenger seat is four-way power adjustable (the AWD-e model driver’s seat has six-way power adjustable controls). Additional interior features include SofTex-trimmed heated tilt/telescopic steering wheel and door armrest area, chrome accent interior door handles, extended SofTex trimmed seat back pockets, 60/40 split fold-down rear seats with center armrest and a retractable tonneau cover for the cargo area. The FWD model offers 50.7 cubic-feet of cargo area with the rear seat backs folded down.

Tech starts with Prius’ signature 4.2-in. color Dual Multi-Information Display central screen interface, a feature available in every Prius since the original.

A 7-inch touchscreen display and 6-speaker JBL sound system are standard. You’ll get Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa compatibility, an auxiliary audio jack, one USB 2.0 port with iPod connectivity and two 2.1-amp USB charge ports, a Qi wireless phone charging tray that accommodates larger phones, and one 12V power outlet. Add to that, advanced voice recognition, Bluetooth hands-free phone capability, phone book access and music streaming, Siri Eyes Free, and an integrated backup camera display.

Fuel Economy

The Prius AWD-e is rated at an EPA-estimated 51 city/47 highway/49 combined MPG. The FWD model is EPA-estimated at 54 city/50 highway/52 combined MPG.

The Prius is equipped with Toyota’s Star Safety system, which includes Enhanced Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRAC), Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA) and Smart Stop Technology (SST).

Standard Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 (TSS-2.0) includes:
