Angry Minivan Owner Gets Creative – Car Pro News

A user by the name of Shabotski on the popular website shared a classic picture of a driver taking revenge on what seems to be a very shady car dealer.

The sign, which reads “Norman Chrysler | Jeep | Dodge LIED to us to make this sale” in big block, highly legible letters, is customer revenge in one of its finest forms, especially since the picture has gone viral on one of the bigger sites on the Internet.

Shabotski noted that there was another sign on the side of the vehicle, which told passersby how the dealer “ripped them off for 9,000 dollars” and included their personal phone number to get more information.

Another Redditor, username ohtthatsnice, claimed to have once worked at the dealership and described the experience.

“I actually used to work at Norman Chrysler Jeep Dodge in the BDC department…our boss would say ANYTHING to get customers to come in. She lied all the time to these people. Some would be driving from more than an hour away and she would mislead them into thinking we had vehicles we didn’t just to get them there,” they said.

“They would also tell people their credit was ‘pre-approved’ even when it certainly wasn’t. They would say they were doing a ‘credit check’, but it was all bulls**t. Anything to get people there.”

The Norman dealership told us that even though the picture is garnering lots of attention right now, it is actually from 2005 and is making the Internet rounds after the Reddit user posted it with an enticing title, which read “I love it when people take s**t into their own hands.”

“The customers don’t even drive [the minivan] anymore and they’ve actually purchased another car from the dealership,” they said. “The reason it got all of the attention was the title of the post.”

We may never know what is actually going on here, but the moral of the story is that, in the Internet era, disgruntled consumers can have a much easier time getting back at dealerships where they’ve had a bad experience. Motivating customers to do so doesn’t take much, either, since cars are such a significant purchase.

Shabotski, the original poster, said they would call the person the next time they saw the van around town to let them know that their crusade against the Norman dealership has actually been quite effective, although it may have taken a little longer than they intended.

I Got Involved in One of These Cases Once

Readers of the print version of D will recall the name Steve Symonds. He erected the tallest flagpole in North America, but that’s not why we wrote about him. We wrote about him because he’d been sold a lemon Ford and had become so frustrated that he’d plastered lemons all over it, plus a running tally of how many times the thing had been in shop. Well, we’ve got a happy ending to the story. Jerry Reynolds, owner of Prestige Ford, who did not sell him the truck, tells us what he did after he read the story:

Shortly after your article ran, Steve called my Saturday morning radio show on WBAP (with my trusty sidekick Kevin McCarthy). From reading your magazine, I immediately knew who he was after he stated something about “stickers” all over his truck.

I invited him to come see me the following week. Although he did not purchase the “lemon” truck from me and I had never serviced it, my feelings were that this kind of advertising was not good for the Ford business in general.

We met and I found out pretty quick that he was a REALLY nice guy. Just nobody was really listening to him. I called the powers to be at Ford on his behalf and I am pleased to report that he took delivery of a new 2006 F350 last week and he is glowingly pleased with his new truck.
