Audi of America is beefing up its U.S. lineup by taking the wraps off a new, more powerful 2016 A8 L 4.0T Sport model. The pro is that its priced lower than the Audi S8, the con is that while it produces more horsepower than the last 4.0T model, it’s not quite as powerful as the S8.
Under the hood, the 2016 Audi A8 L 4.0T Sport packs a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 similar to the one in the S8. The A8 delivers 450 horses, and while it’s a bump of 15 hps over the last model, its less than the 520 delivered by the S8.
The new A8 also comes with an updated sportier look that includes larger air intakes at the front, sculpted side sills, and 20-inch or available 21-inch alloys. The bumper has been lowered for a more performance-oriented look and the sides of the sedan have been given more prominent rocker panels to give the vehicle a wider stance.
Inside, the standard Executive and Luxury packages offer 22-way Comfort front seats with Valcona leather and a sporty diamond pattern stitching. The front seats also include ventilation and massage functions. Also standard is an Alcantara headliner, panoramic sunroof and acoustic glazing on the windows creating an interior experience that is more luxurious than ever.
Audi driver assistance functions include Audi side assist with pre sense rear, which can aid the driver when changing lanes and helps monitors the traffic following the vehicle and Audi head-up display with navigation information. Audi adaptive cruise control with stop & go is also available.
The A8 is priced at $90,500 compared, about $15,000 less than the S8’s $114,900 starting MRSP.
