New Ford GT Heritage Edition Pays Tribute To 1964 Prototypes

Each week, our veteran radio news journalist, Laura Reynolds, brings interviews with top auto industry execs to CarProUSA. You can hear her latest Auto News shorts right here. In a hurry? Then you'll love these 1-2 minute interview segments.

I’m Laura Reynolds with CarProUSA.com. Ford GT Program Manager Michael Severson says the 2022 Ford GT Heritage Edition supercar is an homage to the 1964 GT prototype… but it wasn’t easy to find a 1964 still intact. Severson: "We actually uncovered the only existing prototype and so there was five prototypes built, the first two were crashed in testing and scrapped. The third and fourth actually won Daytona in 1965 and got third place so two podium places and that was actually our first Ford GT win but they were repainted with blue and silver stripes and they lived in the Shelby museum in Boulder, Colorado. Well there's one left,  GT 105, with the original livery on on it.  And we've got some great photos for people to see of them doing some fun things on the track. It is something that still gives me goosebumps now that I think about it."  For more information on these and other vehicles, check out CarProUSA. com. With Today’s Auto News, I’m Laura Reynolds.
