Official: Here's How Much Power The 2024 Ford Mustang Lineup Delivers

If you're a Ford Mustang fan, the New Year probably has you pretty excited. That's because the countdown is officially on for the launch of the all-new 2024 Mustang that goes on sale this summer. And now we know just how much power the lineup will offer thanks to recently announced specs from Ford.

All-New Ford Mustang Power Figures

The seventh-generation 2024 Mustang lineup offers two engines - a new EcoBoost and a new Coyote V8.  Ford says both offer more power than the outgoing generation.  Here's a look at the lineup and power specs:

Coyote V8

Mustang Dark Horse -  The first-ever Mustang Dark Horse is the most powerful in the range. Its uniquely engineered new fourth-generation Coyote 5.0-liter V8 engine makes 500-horsepower and 418 pound-feet of torque. The automaker says Ford Performance upgrades make it the most powerful non-Shelby Mustang edition ever.   Those upgrades include a uniquely balanced crankshaft and forged piston connecting rods – the latter first introduced in the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 – to handle higher cylinder pressures and piston speeds. Mustang Dark Horse also sports strengthened camshafts for track-durability needs, including extended operation closer to its 7,500-rpm redline.

“Mustang has always pushed the envelope. From Mustang GT to Dark Horse, this is our best 5.0-liter V8 yet. It’s naturally aspirated awesomeness,” said Ed Krenz, Mustang chief engineer. “And Mustang EcoBoost fans are also getting a boost in power to make every Mustang more fun and visceral to drive.”

Mustang GT - The GT is next in line. It, too, gets the V8 minus the upgrades afforded the Dark Horse model. So it's not quite a powerful. There are two ways you can go here:

  1. With the available active-valve performance exhaust system, the Mustang GT coupe and convertible will deliver 486 horsepower and 418 ft.-lb. of torque. Ford also says it has custom-V8 sound with the ability to close the valves to restrict the amount of noise made by the car.
  2. Without the performance exhaust system, the standard Mustang GT delivers 480-horses. Torque drops slightly to 415 pound-feet.

For Mustang GT and Mustang Dark Horse, horsepower and torque ratings are the same for automatic and manual transmissions.

Turbocharged Eco-Boost

The other engine option for either the coupe or convertible is Ford's new 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine. It delivers 315-horsepower, the most standard power in a four- or six-cylinder Mustang ever along with 350 ft.-lb. of torque.  It also offers the optional active-valve performance exhaust system designed for even more excitement from its turbocharged-soundtrack.

Ford says the new engine incorporates its new Modular Power Cylinder (MPC) engine architecture, driving prowess in design and function. Ford also says it's targeting improved EPA-estimated fuel economy over the outgoing model year. The new engine uses a new Bore to Stroke ratio, Port Fuel injection coupled with direct injection, variable cam timing, integrated Exhaust Gas Recirculation and Twin Scroll turbocharging technologies.
