Top Small SUV Sales For May 2022

The microchip shortage continues to hamper sales, even in the super-hot small SUV segment. Last month, the small SUV segment tallied just over 149,000 sales versus 237,000 sales in May 2021.

Toyota RAV4 outsold the Honda CR-V by 15,000 units and holds a 73,000 vehicle lead through just five months of sales.  Only the RAV4 and the Kia Niro showed sales increases this May over last May.

As usual, not all automakers report on a monthly basis, but here are the sales numbers for those that do report, and how this May stacked up against May of 2021. We will be able to look at the second quarter sales results after June business is closed, as well as see how all automakers are faring at the midyear point.
