NHTSA Consumer Alert: Important Kia Sportage & Cadenza Recall for Fire Risk

Owners of select Model Year 2017-2021 Kia Sportage and Cadenza vehicles should park their cars outside and away from homes until their vehicles have been repaired, due to a new recall for the risk of fire.

Kia Motors America issued a safety recall (NHTSA ID 21V-137) on Tuesday for 379,931 select Sportage and Cadenza vehicles not equipped with Smart Cruise Control. Until these recalled vehicles have been repaired, the safest place to park them is outside and away from homes and other structures.

The electrical circuit in the hydraulic electronic control unit in these vehicles may short circuit, which could cause a fire in the engine compartment.

Summary

Kia Motors America (Kia) is recalling certain 2017-2021 Sportage and Cadenza vehicles. The electrical circuit in the Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU) may short-circuit, which can cause a fire in the engine compartment.

Remedy

Kia will notify owners, and dealers will replace certain fuses in the electrical junction box. Vehicles equipped with an electronic parking brake (EPB) will also receive a HECU software update. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures as a precaution until the recall repair is complete. Summary

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2021 Mustang Mach-E vehicles. The front subframe bolts may not have been tightened properly during assembly, which could result in loose bolts.

Remedy

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the front subframe bolts and tighten them as necessary, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin March 22, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 21S09.

INFINITI

Summary

Nissan North America, Inc. (INFINITI) is recalling certain 2006-2008 INFINITI FX35 and FX45 vehicles that previously received a replacement front passenger air bag assembly under recall number 20V-008. The air bag cushion was folded incorrectly, which could increase internal pressure and tear the air bag cushion during deployment.

Remedy

INFINITI will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front passenger air bag module, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin April 18, 2021. Owners may contact INFINITI customer service at 1-800-662-6200. INFINITI's number for this recall is R20C2.

MITSUBISHI

Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) is recalling certain 2013-2015 Outlander Sport vehicles originally sold, or ever registered, in Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. The front lower control arms may detach due to the front cross member corroding from salt water exposure, such as from road salt use.

Remedy

MMNA will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the front cross members. Depending on the level of existing corrosion, either a sealing/anti-corrosion agent will be applied, or the front cross member will be replaced with a new one, free of charge. Owners not previously notified under 20V-279 will be notified on March 26, 2021.

Summary

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2016-2019 Nissan Sentra vehicles. The brake light switch may become contaminated, preventing the circuit from closing and the brake lights from illuminating.

Remedy

Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the brake light switch and install a protective grommet, free of charge. Remedy parts are expected to become available Fall 2021. Interim notices informing owners of the safety risk are expected to be mailed beginning April 7, 2021. Owners will receive a second notice when the remedy becomes available. Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will tighten the left and right-side tie rod ball joint fasteners, or install new fasteners as necessary, free of charge.
