BMW is recalling approximately 85,000 model-year 2006-10 X3 2.5i, 3.0i and xDrive30i SUVs due to a front airbag detection problem.
The front passenger-seat occupant detection mat that determines if and how the passenger frontal airbag should deploy in a crash may fatigue and develop cracks, which could lead to a system failure; in a crash, the front passenger airbag would be deactivated, increasing the risk of an injury.
Dealers will replace the front passenger-seat occupant detection mat for free.
BMW will begin notifying owners Nov. 20. Owners can call the automaker at 800-525-7417, or visit www.safercar.gov to check the VIN to learn more.Tags: BMW junk in the trunk recall x3
