We know China is a huge market for Buick. So it’s no surprise Buck will debut its Velite PHEV concept at the Guangzhou Auto Show later this month.
GM says the car “will provide a template for upcoming models being launched under the Buick Blue new energy vehicle strategy.” The automaker unveiled a Lacross Hybrid for the Chinese market back in April.
We don’t know a lot about the Velite right now. But some people including the folks at Automotive News are referring to it as essentially the Chevrolet Volt for China. GM says it will have a high-performance plug-in hybrid electric vehicle powertrain under the hood. It will be paired to GM’s latest modular intelligent electric drive system and a high-performance modular lithium ion battery pack.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard the word Velite. Buick showed off a convertible concept with the name back in 2004. In 2014, General Motors also filed to use the name for the U.S. variant of its Opel Cascada four-seat convertible.
