Cadillac Unveils All-New XT5 SUV

2017 Cadillac XT5

Cadillac’s best-seller is getting a reboot. The 2017 XT5, successor to the SRX crossover, has been unveiled.

The all-new vehicle retains many of the design elements of the SRX — including its tailfin-shaped brake lights, blunt front fascia, and steep side character lines — while adding the brand’s signature vertical LED running lights and a more upscale look, overall.

Cadillac is offering only a peek at the outside, for now, with full details to come at the Dubai Motor Show in November. The choice of venue indicates the importance of the Middle East market for the company’s growth.

Although it is currently the oldest vehicle in its lineup, Cadillac has sold over 43,000 SRXs in the United States this year, which is as much as all of its sedan models combined.

The company has been focused recently on competing with the foreign luxury brands in the four-door segments, but Cadillac president Johan DeNysschen has said that crossovers and SUVs will play a much larger role in its future plans.

Crossovers bigger and smaller than the XT5 are expected to be added by the end of the decade, with the XT nomenclature denoting their size categories, while the Escalade SUV will continue to use that name.
