“This is what it’s all about” said Classic Chevrolet owner Tom Durant, “giving back to the community, and I couldn’t be prouder of our employees for continuing this effort”. He was referring to the $3 million dollars raised by the employees of Classic Chevrolet and the Steve Thompson Classic Charity Golf Tournament.
Now in its 7th year, The Steve Thompson Classic Charity Golf Tournament, named in honor of the late Steve Thompson of The Thompson Group at Classic Chevrolet, raised $500,000 to benefit local non-profit organizations. This year’s contribution brings the total donated to $3 million dollars since 2012.
Employees at Classic Chevrolet chose thirteen charities and spent the year planning activities to help raise money. New this year was the inaugural 5k run, and the poker run which was sponsored by Texas Harley-Davidson in Bedford, TX. In addition, employees donate through payroll deductions all year. In 2018, a total of $250,000 was raised, which Tom and Susan Durant match dollar for dollar for a grand total contribution of $500,000.
A ceremony was held November 21, 2018 with formal check presentations to this year’s charities which include: G.R.A.C.E., 6 Stones, Angel Fund, Community Store House, Food for the Soul, Christ Haven, Miracle League, VAS, Neuro Fitness, Mid Care Corp, Unite for Troops, Rise, and Chari- T 2000.
A Thanksgiving lunch was also served to all Classic Chevrolet employees for their efforts throughout the year with entertainment provided by the Trinity High School drumline from Euless, TX.
Timothy Lynch, commercial manager for The Thompson Group at Classic Chevrolet addressed the crowd, “We are honored to be able to make a difference to so many worthwhile charities and look forward to continuing our efforts in 2019”.
