Car Pro Show host Jerry Reynolds is once again giving Houston Chronicle readers his sought-after tips and auto advice in the newspaper’s Automotive Section.
From how to shop for a new car, navigate the sales office and deal with trade-ins, to getting vehicles serviced, understanding warranties and decoding dealership speak, Reynolds’ returning newspaper column offers Houston Chronicle readers car buying insight into what is typically the second largest purchase people make.
“Weekly, in the Houston Chronicle and at www.Chron.com, I give real-world advice on issues that can affect consumers,” said Jerry Reynolds, Host of the Car Pro Show. “I give tips on buying, but also tips like financing, leasing, servicing your vehicle, and many other topics.”
Reynolds, an automotive expert and long-time host of the nationally syndicated Car Pro Radio Show, has a history with the Hearst-owned newspaper. Reynolds’ column previously appeared every other week in the Houston Chronicle from 2008 through 2014, as well as in the Los Angeles Times from 2010-2013.
“I worked with Jerry in LA when I was at the Los Angeles Times and he was doing some writing for us while I was managing the auto business out there,” said Ken Nail, Senior Director of Automotive for Hearst Newspapers. “It’s great to have Jerry and Car Pro back in the paper [Houston Chronicle] writing for us.”
Reynolds’ auto advice column currently posts online every Friday for the Houston Chronicle’s web audience. Houston-area readers can also catch it in hardcopy form in the paper on Saturdays.
“The Houston Chronicle is one of the best newspapers in America, and their Auto Section is exceptional,” said Reynolds. “I can’t tell you how pleased I am to be a part of this great newspaper.”
Adding Reynolds’ advice column to the Houston Chronicle’s Automotive Section is part of the publisher’s recent efforts to revamp its automotive content offerings. Nail said the goal is to provide compelling content for readers in addition to automotive news and reviews.
“We try to put more compelling content that the readers will engage with more and we think that some of the content Jerry provides will help us do that,” said Nail.
It’s a welcome return to the Houston Chronicle for the radio show host, who offers readers a unique perspective from his background as a former high-profile Ford dealer.
“I am so happy to be back in the Houston Chronicle. My goal is always to help people make good car buying decisions,” said Reynolds. “It can be frightening to visit a car dealership if you are not sure if it is a good dealership or not. That was the reason I started the Car Pro Show 16 years ago.”
The Car Pro Show does more than offer advice to listeners. It also connects car buyers with hand-picked, vetted, Car Pro Certified Dealers in Houston and beyond, dedicated to providing a VIP car buying experience.
“When Hearst called and said they wanted Jerry to start writing for them again, it made perfect sense, ” said Tom Haynes, Business Manager for Car Pro. “The consumer’s in Houston know that Car Pro means, straight talk, honest answers and trusted dealers. If Jerry says it, you can bank on it. We are thrilled to be back with the Hearst organization and are looking forward to growing with them around the country.”
