Chevrolet advertising will be all over TV screens on Super Bowl Sunday — and on plenty of mobile screens, too.
General Motors said Chevy is launching a mobile app that will let viewers of the big game play trivia or answer surveys related to the game — and the commercials. They’ll get the chance to win prizes, too, including one of 20 new Chevys.
The Chevy Game Time app gives GM a social-media presence to supplement the five commercials it’s expected to air during the game.
Joel Ewanick, GM’s global chief marketing officer, says it’s the first time a company has offered a large-scale app specifically for Super Bowl viewers.
“The way people watch TV has changed with smartphones and tablets helping viewers interact while in front of the screen,” Ewanick said in a statement. “This app takes that interactivity to a whole new level on one of the biggest days for television viewing.”
In addition to the 20 Chevys, players will get the chance to win one of 5,000 Papa John’s pizzas, as well as phones from Motorola, tires from Bridgestone and other prizes from NFLShop.com and Sirius XM Radio.
Users of the Chevy app will receive a unique “license plate” number on their device. Users whose numbers match a plate that appears in a Chevy spot during the game will win a new vehicle.
The app will be available for download by kickoff of the NFC Championship game on Sunday.
Andrew Dinsdale, assistant director of digital and customer relations management for Chevrolet, says the Chevy app offers “a whole new opportunity with that second screen that gets us into not only the living room, but the kitchen … the other parts of that Super Bowl experience.”
