Chrysler Group LLC said it is recalling 9,655 full-size vans to prevent accelerator pedals from sticking, which could lead to unintended acceleration.
The Auburn Hills unit of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV said it is recalling its 2014 Ram ProMaster vans to resolve a condition that may allow an accelerator pedal to stick in the wide-open position if force is applied at an angle.
Chrysler said it is knows of no injuries, accidents or customer complaints. All Chrysler vehicles are equipped with a brake-throttle override system. This enables brake-pedal application to override any simultaneous accelerator input so the driver can bring the vehicle to a stop.
This issue was discovered during testing at a Chrysler facility, where a driver applied downward force at an angle. Chrysler Group engineers investigated and found a 3.0-inch (75-mm) stop — which went into production four days after the incident — did not bind, even when force was applied to the accelerator pedal at an angle, Chrysler said.
Chrysler said the recall covers 7,935 vehicles in the U.S.; 1,437 vehicles in Canada; and 283 in Mexico. Approximately half of all affected vehicles are in dealer hands. No incidents have been reported among owners, but one reported incident occurred at Chrysler’s proving grounds, prompting the internal investigation.
