Dr. Phil’s ’57 Chevy Stolen – Car Pro News

A $1,000 reward is being offered for the arrest and conviction of the thief who stole Dr. Phil McGraw’s classic 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reports.
The reward is also contingent on the safe return of the car, which McGraw, the psychologist with a hit daytime television show, says is a valued possession. The reward is being offered by the shop where the black convertible was stolen last Sunday, Rodz, in Burbank, Calif.
Interestingly, the case is no longer just being handled by Burbank Police. Rather, Burbank detectives are now working in conjunction with a larger agency, the Taskforce for Regional Autotheft Prevention, or TRAP.
McGraw said that the thieves passed up other expensive cars at the shop to steal his classic. He also says investigators told him that several other 1957 Chevy Bel Airs had been stolen in the Los Angeles area recently, raising the possibility that a theft ring is at work. McGraw fears that the car, because of the publicity and because it is so easy to identify, may be slated to be smuggled in a container to Asia or South America.
The sheriff’s department says anyone who thinks they may have a lead on the whereabouts of the car or the suspects should call TRAP investigators at 800-399-TRAP.
