Feedback On True Stories From a Former Car Dealer #30: Ford Direct

Ford Direct

Here are some of my favorite comments on our website from last week’s True Story, which was about a new Internet initiative the dealers brought to Ford.  By the way, if you have missed any of the previous stories, they are all at the bottom of my FAQ page: http://www.carprousa.com/faq

Peggy-

Such a great article on an exciting subject. Thank you for giving us a behind the scenes look at the birth of car buying for Ford Motor Company. I absolutely love all of these stories!

Jim-

I’ve been a Ford dealer for over 30 years.  I remember the broadcast you did and thought “what a wonderful idea.”  Like you, I embraced the Internet early on. Your leadership for the Dealer Council was incredible.  In all my years, I never even knew what the Council did until you came along.  I thank you for leading us, we’ve not had a leader like you since you stepped down.

Bruce-

I have very much enjoyed your stories.  I owned a dealership in Illinois for a lot of years, and like you, got out at the right time.  I can relate to every single story you have written.  I was a listener in Chicago, now an Internet listener.  Hope you get back on the air here.

Joan-

I have thoroughly enjoyed your stories about being a car dealer, I was married to one for many years.  He passed about 10 years ago, but like you, cared for his people deeply.  I stood by while he toiled to make sure everyone made a decent living.  He cared about his customers more than I can describe.  People complain about car dealers, but the love of my life cared deeply for the people who patronized his dealership.  The good ones are under-appreciated for sure.  Thank you for being one of those.

I’m wondering how the Costco car buying has affected dealerships. From what I read, the deals are almost too good to be true.
I realize dealerships make most of their money on service, not sales.
Any comments on places like Costco, or True Car?

I don’t think you can get your best deal using those services. They charge a hefty fee and it gets passed on to you. My listeners tell me my process ends with a better deal.
