FCA Recalls 100K More Vehicles To Fix Takata Air Bags

Just when you thought there couldn’t possibly be more vehicles with faulty Takata air bag recall to recall, comes this. Fiat Chrysler is adding 100,000 older model trucks and SUVs to the recall list.

The new recall for faulty air bags that can explode includes driver-side air bags in certain:

  • 2009 Chrysler Aspen
  • Dodge Durango
  • 2010 Ram 3500
  • 2005-2009 Ram 2500

Takata air bags are now linked to as many as 16 deaths worldwide, most of those in Honda vehicles. More than 150 people have been hurt in accidents involving the air bags that can explode in some conditions and send shrapnel flying into the cabin.

Fiat Chrysler says it knows of no injuries involving this specific group of recalled vehicles.

Dealers will replace the inflators with parts made by another company. Fiat Chrysler says the driver-side replacement air bags are now available, but the passenger-side air bags of already recalled models won’t be available until spring.

Owners should expect letters in the mail this week.
