Fiat will recall about 19,000 of its 500L crossover/station wagons for possible problems with their six-speed automatic transmissions.
Some vehicles won’t shift out of park and others don’t respond or are slow to react to commands for gear changes, Chrysler Group said.
After reports of the problems, Chrysler engineers found that temperature extremes can compromise the function of one microcontroller component.
A software update should resolve the problem, Chrysler said.
All of the affected vehicles are 2014 model 500Ls. About 20 percent of the vehicles are still on dealer lots.
Owners will be contacted and advised when to schedule service.
