First Acura NSX Scores $1.2 Million At Barrett-Jackson

A record-setting $1.2 million bucks. That’s how much first 2017 Acura NSX hybrid sportster sold for at this weekend’s Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction. It’s a record auction price for a vehicle with a designated VIN 001 number.

The winner bidder was none other than famed automobile collector Rick Hendrick. He didn’t buy a car he could drive home right away, but the right to custom order the first production model of the new NSX which arrives this spring.

Sale proceeds benefit the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, based in North Carolina, and Camp Southern Ground in Georgia, the passion project of Grammy Award-winning music artist Zac Brown.

“It was amazing to witness such generosity of spirit and passion for the new NSX,” said Jon Ikeda, vice president and general manager of Acura. “Mr. Hendrick will have the great satisfaction of owning and driving the very first next-generation NSX, and making a difference in the lives of thousands of children.”

The NSX will go on sale for a starting price of $156,000 and top out around $206,000 when it’s loaded with all the options.

Acura is one of at least nine automakers that will advertise in this year’s Super Bowl 50. Audi, Buick, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mini and Toyota are also expected to air commercials. Volkswagen, Nissan, Mercedes-Benz and Ford say they’ll sit this one out this year. A 30-second spot during the game is going for an estimated $5 million.

Super Bowl 50 airs on Sunday, February 7th.
