First Look: 2014 GMC Sierra Denali 1500 – Car Pro News

2014 GMC Sierra DenaliGeneral Motors unveiled the Denali version of its redesigned 2014 GMC Sierra and said the pickup’s 6.2-liter V-8 engine will pack more horsepower and torque than the truck it replaces – and any light-duty truck on the market.
GM said its 6.2-liter engine, which will do service in the Denali as well as other Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado models, will produce an estimated 420 hp and 450 pounds-feet of torque. That’s up from 403 hp and 417 pounds-feet in the outgoing 2013 models.
GM had not previously disclosed estimated power figures for the 6.2-liter engine, the largest of three new engines that will be used in the redesigned 2014 Sierra and Silverado 1500s.
Both redesigned pickups are scheduled to arrive in showrooms this week or next week with 5.3-liter crew cab models. Other models, including pickups with the 6.2-liter and a 4.3-liter V-6, will roll out by fall.
GM said that prices for the Denali, as well as official horsepower, torque and fuel economy ratings for the 6.2 liter engine, will be announced later.
For the first time on the Sierra Denali, the 6.2-liter engine will be optional; the 5.3-liter V-8 engine will be the standard engine. The 5.3-liter produces 355-horses and 383 pound-feet of torque.
The top-trim Denali line has become a bright spot for GMC, accounting for about 20 percent of the brand’s sales last year. Denali take rates range from about 60 percent on the Yukon SUV to 5 percent on the Sierra 1500.
The 2014 Sierra Denali is GMC’s answer to the proliferation of high-end pickups. Ford, for example, generates nearly one-third of its F-150 pickup sales from five luxury models, including King Ranch and Platinum models.
The ’14 Denali features a signature bold chrome grille, 20-inch chrome wheels and an 8-inch customizable digital instrument panel that shows settings and audio and navigation information. Other standard features include heated and cooled front seats, a heating steering wheel and front and rear park assist.
Options include the 6.2 liter engine, a sunroof and a rear entertainment system.
Through April, overall GMC sales were up 12 percent to 139,726, outpacing the industry’s 7 percent rise.
