Ford Honors Carroll Shelby – Car Pro News

No doubt about it, Carroll Shelby would have loved the tribute to his legacy that Ford cooked up for him over the weekend in Monterey, Calif.
Edsel Ford, a Ford Motor board member and great-grandson of the company’s founder, and his son Henry III, who now works for the company in its Southern California district, were part of a parade of Cobras at the Quail, a motor sports gathering near Carmel, Calif. Edsel rode in the lead car, the original Cobra.

Earlier, Edsel Ford joined Ford marketing czar Jim Farley and Shelby American CEO John Luft in unveiling a one-of-a-kind 800-horsepower 2013 Shelby GT500 Cobra. It was intended as a tribute to the colorful Shelby. It brought up the rear in the parade.
Shelby died earlier this year at 89. He was one of the longest-surviving heart transplant patients and remained active in auto development right up until his death. Ford builds Shelby-branded Mustangs and Shelby’s own Shelby American customizes Mustangs and builds its own Cobras in Las Vegas.
Ford is also announcing a renamed road through its Dearborn, Mich., campus for Shelby. It will be called Carroll Shelby Way.
