Ford Hybrids Are Hot – Car Pro News

Ford HybridsAs May ended, and the auto industry starts to celebrate another great month for sales, Ford has its own claim to fame.
It says it has sold more hybrids so far this year than in all of 2010, its previous highest year of sales for hybrids. That’s interesting, and it shows that customers increasingly no longer view hybrids as exotic technology. They’re just another way — albeit an expensive one — to save gas.
Helping Ford, too, was an expanded lineup of hybrids. The C-Max people hauler joined the list in both a hybrid and a plug-in. Ford also has scored with the great-looking new Fusion, which also comes as a hybrid and plug-in.
Ford sold 35,496 hybrid vehicles in all of 2010. Now, it is expected to sell 37,000 hybrids through May. That’s a 375% increase over the same period last year.
“We’re working tirelessly to get as many hybrids to the market as we can right now to meet this unprecedented customer demand for our electrified vehicles,” said Erich Merkle, Ford U.S. sales analyst, in a statement. “The success we are experiencing with hybrids is energizing the whole company.”
The Fusion Hybrid is in such demand that dealers only have an average of 14 days of them, far less than the typical “turn rate” for a car. The hybrid version makes up 15% of Fusion sales.

I test drove one of the C-Max. The sticker claimed that you could get 100 mpg. It was a nice car and I wouldn’t mind having one, the only problem I would have is the seats are not that comfortable. I loved all the tech. It had just about everything you would want, it’s a computer on wheel. What I have questions on is the plug in cost and how long will the batteries last.

Elaine, thanks for listening to the show. They batteries are under warranty for 8 years or 100,000 miles. Cost to charge depending on where you live averages about $1 a day.

C-Max is a great car, you might look at Fusion electric for more comfort.
