One Mississippi, two Mississippi, three Mississippi, four, and you’re going 60 mph in the 2018 Mustang GT.
The new 2018 Ford Mustang GT can hit zero-60 in less than four seconds in drag strip mode. In case you wondered, Ford says that’s faster than the $94,000 Porsche 911 Carrera.
Ford’s fastest-ever Mustang does the deed by reworking the 5.0-liter V8 with 460-horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque, which adds up to 25 more horses and 20 more torque than the 2017 model year.
It also ditches the old six-speed transmission for a new optional 10-speed SelectShift automatic. The result is faster shift times and better low-speed tip-in response. Steering wheel-mounted shift paddles allow drivers maximum manual control.
Kick the thing into Drag Mode and away you go in under four. Below is a shot of the drag mode cockpit display on the 12-inch digital cluster.
The 2018 Mustang’s standard engine is a retuned EcoBoost four-cylinder which sees a 30 lb-ft improvement in torque for a new 350 total while continuing to offer a none-too-shabby 310-horsepower. Throw in the Performance Package with Drag Strip mode and it’ll take you to 60 mph in under 5 seconds.
The 2018 Mustang rides into dealerships this fall. And don’t forget all Mustangs now come standard with burnout. Yeah, this is setting up to be a smoking year for the pony car.
