Ford’s getting ready to unveil its next generation Police Interceptor SUV, designed specifically for law enforcement. But other than this preview teaser, Ford’s not saying much ahead of the big day which will come next week at the Chicago Auto Show. It’s a city fit for the unveiling because Ford builds it in the windy city.
Of course, we do know a few things. It’s based on the 2016 Explorer which recently had a facelift. Ford promises the revised version will be “even better” than the model it replaces. The fifth-generation version takes some styling hints from other Ford vehicles, like its Raptor styled headlights. We’ll find out if it gets the option of Ford’s new 2.3-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost engine next week.
“We continue to look at ways we can offer our customers additional product enhancements to further meet their unique needs,” said Gerry Koss, Ford fleet marketing manager. “Our Police Advisory Board and customers across the country identified the EcoBoost engine as their No. 1 want in the Police Interceptor utility vehicle.”
We’ll update you with more details after the unveiling on February 12.
