2019 Genesis G70 Sports 6-Speed Manual, Brembo Brakes

2019 Genesis G70

Much like its sibling Kia, Genesis means business when it comes to going after the Germans. The latest example, the new entry-level G70 sedan that made its U.S. debut at the 2018 New York Auto Show.

The performance four-door is all about taking on the BMW 3- Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class with two turbocharged engines and an available 6-speed manual.

2019 Genesis G70

Starting with the basics, the 2019 Genesis G70 will launch in the U.S. this summer with five trims. It starts with the entry-level Advanced and goes up to the range-topping Sport.  It will be available in eight colors.

The new G70 is sporty looking from bumper to bumper and has the look of the Kia Stinger about it, you can really see that in the front end.  Like the G80 and G90 it also features the Genesis Crest Grille with distinctive linear LED daytime-running lights.

Performance and Handling

Genesis says it’s tested the G70 in some of the world’s most challenging environments, including Death Valley, northern Sweden, and Germany’s vaunted Nürburgring Nordschleife.

There are two terrific turbocharged engines to choose from: a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder will deliver 252-horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque.  A 3.3-liter V-6 bumps you up considerably to 365-horsepower and 376 lb-ft of torque.  It can also go from  0-60mph in just 4.5 seconds.

The engines are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission with steering wheel paddle shifters. Automatics also get launch control. Stick shift lovers take note, a 6-speed manual will be available on cars equipped with the 2.0-liter rear-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is available with all powertrains.

Genesis also gives the G70 sharper handling an optional Dynamic package. It gives you limited-slip differential,  Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires for those 19-inch wheels and Brembo brakes.

Cabin Comforts

Genesis does a great job with interiors as we’ve seen with the G80 and G90. The smaller sedan is as well filled with high-quality materials including a lot of Nappa leather quilting.  There are also brushed aluminum surfaces, stainless steel speaker grilles, and stitched soft-touch surfaces throughout the cabin.

An optional 15-speaker Lexicon high-fidelity audio system with QuantumLogic surround-processing technology is available.

Safety Features

The G70 comes with the Genesis Active Safety Control suite of safety tech. It includes Forward Collision Avoidance Assist with Pedestrian Detection, Blind Spot Collision Warning and Lane Keeping Assist, and Driver Attention Warning.
Look for the G70 to arrive in dealerships this summer.
