GM is recalling the Chevy Silverado HD and Sierra HD models equipped with the 6.6-liter diesel engines and dual fuel tanks. On the affected models, the transfer pump that moves fuel from the rear tank to the front tank could malfunction and cause the fuel gauge to give an inaccurate reading. Without a proper reading, a driver risks stalling the vehicle or running out of fuel, which can increase the chance of an accident. Approximately 9,733 vehicles are affected, 7,840 in the U.S.
GM will notify owners and dealers, and dealers will inspect and replace the fuel transfer pump, as necessary, free of charge. Chevrolet owners can also call 1-800-222-1020, GMC owners may call 1-800-462-8782, and use GM recall number 13420 or go to Safercar.gov for more information.
