Gulf States Toyota is recalling approximately 1,100 model-year 2017 Toyota Highlander and Highlander Hybrid SUVs because their accessory roof rails could detach and fly off the vehicle.
GST says the fasteners for the roof rails may not be tight enough, possibly allowing the rails to loosen and detach from the vehicle. The rail cross bars were improperly torqued because of incorrect installation instructions.
You can check out the official recall document here.
GST is the second largest franchised Toyota distributor made up of 154 dealers. The dealership network says there are no reports of detachments. The network will inspect and tighten fasteners for free after it begins notifying owners on Sept. 25.
Owners can call the dealership network at 800-444-1074 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236.
