It’s a wild ride even Jay Leno himself probably didn’t bargain for during a car stunt at the Irwindale Speedway in California.
He was riding in one of his “all-time” favorite cars – a 2500-horsepower Hemi Under Glass – when its experienced driver lost control while doing a wheelie and the car rolled several times.
The Hemi-powered Plymouth Barracuda was being driven by accomplished stuntman Bob Riggle. (Riggle is 80 years old by the way.) The segment was being filmed for Leno’s TV show.
Originally built as a drag racer, the supercharged car became famous for being able to lift its front two wheels with nothing more than a firm grip on the accelerator pedal. In this case, Riggle lost control in a turn.
You can see video from inside the car when it rolled over at 3:11. Once it landed on its wheels, a guy with a fire extinguisher immediately ran up to the car. Fortunately, there wasn’t a fire and neither Leno or Riggle were hurt in the wreck. In the video, Leno jokes that he does stuff like this every week. All joking aside, we’re glad everyone’s okay.
