KBB’s 15 Best Family Cars of 2015

KBB’s 15 Best Family Cars of 2015

The results are in and Kelley Blue Book’s just named its 15 Best Family Cars of 2015.  This year, editors expanded the categories and once again partnered with families to put 23 different models to the test, before whittling down the number to a mere 15.

“Once again, we recruited families to assist our expert editors in this laborious evaluation, putting the Best Family Car candidates to a real-life test, including vehicles in two new car categories – full-size pickup trucks and compact cars,” said Jack R. Nerad, executive editorial director and executive market analyst for Kelley Blue Book’s KBB.com. “Evaluated on comfort and driving, safety, child seats, cargo space, rear-seat entertainment, and extra features, this year’s group of winners are deemed the most worthy of family duty.”

Testers started by looking at last year’s finalists. They then added some newly debuted and redesigned vehicles into the mix, to come up with their top 15 favorites of the bunch. They looked at all types of vehicles from SUVS and trucks to minivans and sedans, in the search for the vehicles they felt serve the needs of families best.

“This approach included analyzing three minivans, four compact SUVs, four mid-size SUVs, two full-size SUVs, two full-size sedans, and three mid-size sedans. However, this year also included vehicles from other categories,” said Nerad. “First were two full-size pickup trucks, unconventional choices to be sure, but roomy, comfortable, and with seemingly endless cargo space. On the other end of the spectrum were three compact cars, often the first choice for anyone on a budget.”

Testers looked at advanced electronics like adaptive cruise control, all-around-view cameras, as well as 4G LTE and wireless hotspot options.

In terms of safety, editors say virtually every car on their list boasts very good crash test scores. They also took things like collision and blind-spot alerts, backup cameras, lane-keeping assists, and other computerized systems into consideration.
