The Wienermobile is about to get the boot — the L.L. Bean Bootmobile.
When it comes to oversized, kitschy vehicles, the button-down clothier from Freeport, Maine, is going to have a real contender. L.L. Bean had a vehicle fashioned to look like its flagship product, its rubber-bottomed boot for outdoors people who muck around in the mud. Built on a Ford truck frame with a clean diesel engine, the Bootmobile has started making trips around the country.
New York will be the first stop on a series of appearances in major cities around the country. The Bootmobile will be tough to miss. It is 13-feet high, 20-feet long, has laces made out of mooring rope and a door in the heel for the driver.
If an actual person were found to wear the boot, he or she would be 143 feet tall, L.L. Bean says.
