If you want to get your hands on the newest limited-edition BMW, we have to warn you. It won’t be easy. It’s a car that commemorates the 30th anniversary of the M3. There will only be 150 of them to go around in the US.
BMW “30 JAHRE M3”
The 2017 BMW “30 Jahre M3” (that’s “30 Years of M3” in English) is a nod to the original BMW M3 introduced in 1986. The special edition comes in Macao Blue metallic – a throwback to the color used on the original model. The inside is bathed in merino leather bi-color seats. The car comes with M3 badging everywhere. It also features a sports exhaust system with black chrome tailpipes.
The first-generation sportster was developed specifically for the World, European and German Touring Championship. As such, BMW says it revolutionized the sports car because it was built first and foremost for performance. The original M3 is still considered one of the purest high performance street legal sports coupes out there.
The tribute car is no slouch in the performance department either. The limited-edition increases horsepower by 19 to deliver 444-horses along with 406 pound-feet of torque. BMW says with the optional 7-speed M double clutch transmission, the “30 Jahre M3” sprints from 0 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds. The manual bumps it up to 4.0 seconds.
A competition package includes Adaptive M suspension, which has been comprehensively aligned to the increased performance. Optimized features also include new springs, dampers and stabilizers, modified characteristic curves of the three modes Comfort, Sport and Sport+ as well as a correspondingly modified standard Active M differential on the rear axle and new Dynamic Stability Control feature settings. The competition package also includes 20-inch forged Light Alloy wheels with 666 M star spoke design and mixed performance tires.
The “30 Jahre M3” is priced at $83,250 for a manual. The dual-clutch transmission is priced at $86,150. Both numbers don’t include destination and handling. You can buy one beginning in August.
