Everyone wants the first Ford GT supercar when it goes on sale next year.
“We’re getting inquiries from everywhere, including celebrities like Jay Leno,” said Dave Pericak, director of the new Ford Performance global division that was created in December to put Ford Racing, SVT, Team RS, and together with sales, service, marketing and racing engineering to better incorporate the innovation that goes into racing into Ford’s product development as a whole.
No decisions have been made on who gets the first GT that will be sold in limited volumes in the second half of 2016. Ford has not said how many will be built or how much the car will cost but guesses are in the $300,000 to $400,000 range.
Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander is among the interested.
My guess is it will be auctioned off at Barrett-Jackson to the highest bidder, with the proceeds going to charity.
