Mercedes Recalls Floor Mats in 2012-13 ML-Class Vehicles – Car Pro News

Mercedes-Benz is recalling all-season accessory floor mats sold in model year 2012 and 2013 ML-Class vehicles because they could cause the car’s gas pedal to get stuck.
Mercedes said that the mats may not conform to the contours of the car’s floor. As a result, the gas pedal may not fully retract after the driver stops applying pressure, and the car may not slow down as expected. The company is advising ML-Class owners to remove the accessory floor mats.
A spokesman for Mercedes-Benz says the company is not aware of any crashes or injuries caused by the floor mat problem and is not sure how many vehicles worldwide may have the accessory floor mats. In a form filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the company said the problem may affect 8,675 vehicles in the U.S.
The company said ML-Class models have a safety system that overrides the gas pedal when the gas and brake pedals are both applied.
Ford Motor Co. said Friday it is recalling 16,330 Transit Connect vans because wiper arms may not be adequately riveted, resulting in incomplete or inconsistent clearing of the windshield and possible detachment of the wiper arm.
The recall covers vehicles built in the 2011-12 model years. The Dearborn automaker said it is not aware of any crashes or injuries as a result of the issue. Ford said if the wiper arm detaches, the windshield wiper will fail and the driver’s visibility may be reduced, increasing the risk of a crash. Some owners have complained of poor wiper performance and noisy wipers.
Ford dealers will replace both the passenger and driver windshield wipers and blade assemblies. The vehicles were built at Ford’s Kocaeli plant in Turkey.
Ford began investigating the issue in February after seeing a high number of warranty claims. The automaker will begin notifying owners next week.
