New 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class Coupe

Mercedes-Benz is taking the wraps off the production version of its new 2017 GLC Coupe, aimed at taking on the BMW X4.

There’s nothing shocking about the four-door, which doesn’t vary much from the bright yellow prototype Mercedes showed off last year. It’s naturally sportier and more aggressive looking than its older brother, the GLC compact crossover, and has some styling tweaks from the S-Class.

There will be two versions when it goes on sale in early 2017. One is the GLC300 4Matic Coupe. The other is the AMG GLC43 Coupe. Both come with standard all-wheel drive and Mercedes’ new 9G-Tronic automatic transmission.

The coupe is lighter than its rival the BMW X4 thanks to a combo of aluminum and high-strength steel.

The GLC300’s engine is a 2.0-liter, turbo inline-four that delivers 241 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. The performance AMG model amps up the power by a lot.  A 3.0-liter, twin-turbo V6 engine delivers 362 horses and 384 lb-ft of torque. Mercedes says it should rocket the Coupe from 0 to 60 in less than 5 seconds. The GLC300 4MATIC comes standard with an off-road suspension including with five different modes. You can option full air suspension.

As for looks, the coupe is a few inches longer and a bit lower than the GLC crossover. It has a single-louvered diamond radiator grille and a restyled, dropping roofline. The A-pillar is less steeply raked, while the continuation of the roof outline is lower, giving it a more aggressive backside.  Side running boards are optional. Narrow, split tail lights, a centrally positioned brand star and a sharp spoiler lip are inspired by the S-Class Coupe. The headlights and taillights sport LEDs.

Basic features include light-alloy 19-inch wheels, the Chrome package with visible exhaust tips, EASY-PACK tailgate, Audio 20 CD multimedia system, reversing camera, Keyless-Start and leather MB-Tex upholstery.

Standard safety systems include Active Brake Assist, Crosswind Assist, and Attention Assist.
