The new 2017 Nissan Sentra SR Turbo bumps up the horsepower, but for a price. It starts from $22,825, including destination, which is $5,000 more than the base S model.
The Sentra SR Turbo arrives in dealerships next month. It builds on the SR trim, but comes with a 50 percent boost in horsepower. A new 1.6-liter turbocharged engine delivers 188-horses and 177 pound-feet of torque. To help handle the increased power and torque, significant changes were made to the suspension, steering and brakes. Drivers can opt for a manual or transmission for the same starting price.
The SR Turbo makes five Sentra trims in all. All the other models are already on sale and the base S trim starts from $17,825, including destination and handling.
So what’s new for 2017? Nissan says the 2017 models will be quieter in the cabin thanks to thicker glass. They’ll also get nearly double the storage capacity in the front center console.
A number of Nissan’s Safety Shield Technologies and convenience features are available. They include Forward Emergency Braking, Intelligent Cruise Control, Blind Spot Warning and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. Siri Eyes Free voice recognition, a Bose Premium audio system with eight speakers, and NissanConnectSM with Navigation and Mobile Apps are also available.
The Sentra is Nissan’s third best-selling vehicle behind the Altima and Rogue. It’s been around for 35 years.
