The 2017 Kia Optima just earned the top safety rating from the Insurance Institue for Highway Safety under its new headlight standards.
New LED headlights with High Beam Assist make the Optima a Top Safety Pick Plus pick when also equipped with an available front crash prevention system. The new headlights earned a Good score in the new testing. The Optima already had the Good scores needed in five crash tests and a Superior score in the crash avoidance test.
The IIHS is urging automakers to work on improving headlights pretty much across the board. The group says most vehicle headlights don’t impress in the performance department.
The Optima’s new LED lighting system comes with the Technology package on the SX trim. They come standard on the top SX Limited trim. The SX trim’s LED system, without the Technology package, receives an acceptable score.
The new rating relates to Optimas that were built after March of 2017.
