As far as auto shows are concerned, 2013 is shaping up as the year of the pickup.
Toyota says it will unveil the new Tundra full-size pickup next month at the Chicago Auto Show. It follows the debut of a Ford F-150 concept, officially called the Atlas, at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit earlier this month.
At the same show, the Ram 1500 was named North American Truck of the Year, and General Motors was showing off the next versions of its new Chevrolet Silverado pickup.
That’s a lot of pickup action in a single year.
The current version of the Tundra has done well in the market, but never really threatened the Detroit Three in a way that some expected. So far, Toyota isn’t dropping hints about how the new one will look.
Chicago is an interesting choice to launch it. The show is often heavy on trucks and special editions of vehicles already on the market. Getting Toyota to unveil Tundra there is a big development.
