October National Sales Results

The first 10 months of 2017 auto sales is in the books.  Overall, the industry finished at 1,329,802 new vehicle sales for October.  That marks about a 1% loss, or 44,000 fewer vehicles than October 2016.  BMW had a computer issue and has not reported, so the margin could be even less.

Here are the winners and losers for October 2017, as compared to October 2016, just for the month, not year-to-date.

  • Alfa Romeo was 5139%, from 23 last October to 1205 this October.
  • Maserati was down 12.6%.
  • Chrysler was down 22.3%.
  • Dodge tumbled 41%.
  • Fiat was of 32.5% to 1769 sales.
  • Jeep was down just 2.5%.
  • Ram was off 3.3% to 47,831 sales.
  • Ford was up 6.4% to 178,623.
  • Lincoln was off 1.8%.
  • Buick was off 4.5%.
  • Cadillac was flat.
  • Chevy was down 3.8% to 175,110.
  • GMC was up 4.6%.
  • Acura was down 1.3%.
  • Honda was up 1.2%.
  • Genesis was up 48.7%
  • Hyundai was down 16.4%.
  • Kia was off 9.4%.
  • Jaguar was down 10.2%
  • Land Rover was down just 1%.
  • Mazda was down 8.4%.
  • Mercedes was flat.
  • Smart was off 66.5% to 140 total sales.
  • Mitsubishi was off 3.4%.
  • Infiniti was down 8.1%.
  • Nissan was up 10.2%
  • Subaru was up less than 1%.
  • Tesla was estimated to be up 44.1%.
  • Lexus was down 7.7%.
  • Toyota was up 2.7%.
  • Volvo was up 10.5%
  • Audi was up 9.6%.
  • Porsche was up 4.6%.
  • VW was up 11.8%.

    A suggestion for the Winners/Losers tabulation:
    1) Show data in two columns, one for Winners and the other for Losers.
    2) It would be easier to understand the data if it is made consistent, that is, put either in %s or actual numbers, providing both would be better for all cars.
    For example as shown, the first one on list: Alfa Romeo was 5139%, from 23 last October to 1205 this October. Not clear of the numbers as one is a “%” and the other is a “number”?
