Things are getting even spookier over at Porsche. The Cayman is getting the special Black Edition treatment on the heels of both the 2016 Boxster and 911 Carrera Black Editions this past summer. Like both of those models, the Cayman also gets a nose to tail Black on Black design and enhanced standard features.
The Black on Black design begins on the outside with, yep, standard black paint with the option of going shiny with Jet Black Metallic paint. Under the hood things remain the same with it getting the same Cayman standard 2.7-liter flat-six engine. It gets 275-horsepower, does 0-60 mph in 5.4 seconds, and has a top track speed of 165 mph. Enhanced exterior standard features include 20-inch Carrera Classic wheels and Bi-Xenon headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS).
The inside keeps the dark theme going with the Black Edition logo on the door sill guards. The cabin’s enhanced standard features include a Sport Design steering wheel, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, two-zone climate control, the Sound Package Plus, Park Assist for front and rear, the Communication Management system with navigation, heated seats, and the Porsche crest embossed on the headrests. Whew.
If black doesn’t get your heart racing, there’s always the standard model. The all-new 2016 Cayman packs the same engine and has a starting price of $52,600. It is also offered in S, GTS, and GT4 models with starting prices of $64,100, $75,200, and $84,600 respectively.
The S model packs a 6-cylinder 3.4-liter engine with 325-horsepower. It has does 0-60 mph in 4.7 seconds with a top speed of 175 mph. The GTS bumps the horsepower to 340 and the top speed to 177 mph with a 0-60 mph time of 4.6 seconds. The GT4 really cranks it up with a 3.8-liter engine with 385 horses and a top speed of 183 mph. It does 0-60 mph in 4.2 seconds and also adds exterior design enhancements like front, side, and rear air intakes for a more aerodynamic ride.
Look for the Black Edition Cayman to arrive in showrooms this January.
The Boxster Black Edition is available now with a starting price of $59,100. The open air model features a 2.7-liter engine with 265-horsepower and a top speed of 164 mph. Check out the Porsche site for more information on the 911 Carrera version.
