Written By: CarPro | Sep 9, 2021 10:18:02 AM

Dog_Clear the Shelter-credit-park-placeAnimal lovers that we are here at the Car Pro Show, when we heard our friends at Park Place Dealerships were supporting the SPCA of Texas' 2021 Clear the Shelters event, we knew we wanted to help them get the word out about pets that need loving homes.  That's why for the past few weeks we've been sharing Park Place Dealerships Pets of the Week.

The 2021 Clear the Shelters Event is going on now through September 19th.  Park Place Dealerships participation in the effort is part of its ongoing relationship with the SPCA of Texas.

“We love our pets,” said Anam Ali Hashambhai, marketing director for Park Place Dealerships. “We’ll be supporting the SPCA of Texas to help clear their shelters and find forever homes for the dogs and cats. The SPCA of Texas rescues, heals and finds homes for tens of thousands of pets each year. We are honored to partner with them. We’ll be using the power of our social media platforms as well as communicating with our 1,400-member Park Place family, to get the word out about this special event.”

This week, meet our final Park Place Dealerships' Pets of the Week, Badger and Bella. We're happy to report that Saffron has been adopted!

All the other pets highlighted here are still available and looking for amazing homes.

Meet Badger and Bella!

Meet Badger! He’s a sweet, 8-year-old Domestic Shorthair mix with a lot of love to give! He came to the SPCA of Texas when he was transferred in from another shelter, so not much is known about his past. While at the SPCA of Texas, Badger has shown that he is a loving, social boy. He adores attention from people, especially chin scratches. Badger is a total purr machine, and immediately begins purring when you greet him with a pet or two. He is FIV positive, which means that he will need to be in a home with other FIV positive cats or someone who knows how to care for FIV positive and negative cats together safely. The SPCA of Texas can tell you all about how easy it is to care for a special cat like him. Badger has been neutered, microchipped and is current on all age-appropriate vaccinations. He is currently waiting to meet you in a foster home. To request an appointment to meet Badger, please fill out the form at spca.org/catadopt. This week, for Clear the Shelters, the SPCA of Texas is offering free adoptions from September 13th to 19th. The SPCA of Texas is happy to partner with Park Place Dealerships to find even more pets loving homes. Don't miss this opportunity to meet your new furry family member at the SPCA of Texas!

Meet Bella! This goofy, 2-year-old American Bulldog mix has a big body with an even bigger heart. Weighing in at 80-pounds, Bella is big, beautiful and bustling with energy. She came to the SPCA of Texas from unfortunate circumstances, but has since gotten her groove back and let her personality shine. Bella has the cutest, squishiest face that you won’t be able to resist petting. She loves to snuggle, and always offers a big wag of her tail when you give her attention. Often, she’ll greet you with a toy in her mouth signaling that she is ready to play! Bella loves to play with all kinds of toys, and is especially fond of games of tug and fetch. She knows how to “sit” on command, and is eager to learn more tricks in exchange for a tasty treat or two. Due to her staggering size, the SPCA of Texas thinks Bella would do best in a home with children ages 15 and up. She would prefer to be the only pup in the home so she can soak up all of your love and attention. Bella is eligible for a trial adoption, so you can take her home and see how things go before making your adoption official. Bella is waiting to meet you at SPCA of Texas’ Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center in Dallas.

Pets Of The Week - Sept. 9

peanut-and-shoeshine

Meet Peanut and Shoeshine!

Meet Peanut, a 2½-year-old Mixed Breed who is always ready to play and have fun. Peanut is a bionic dog – he might not be able to walk through a metal detector without setting it off, but at least he can play again! After two knee surgeries, he will always need to take it easy and not jump off porches or furniture to avoid putting additional stress on his joints, but Peanut doesn’t let anything slow him down. Peanut is a strong puller, so he might do better in a home with a yard where he can get a little time to get his energy out before walking on the leash, or at least someone who doesn’t mind very brisk walks. Peanut is super smart and loves cheese treats, so he’s already picked up both “sit” and “stay.” Peanut would greatly benefit from additional training to keep his mind sharp and improve his manners. He can get a little over excited especially first thing in the morning, so he’d love a home with kids 12 and up. Peanut is polite to other dogs on his walks and would like to meet any dogs in the home before adoption. Right now, all dogs and cats 6 months and older are just $25 to adopt at the SPCA of Texas’ Dallas and Ellis locations. Peanut is waiting to meet you at SPCA of Texas Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center.

If you like BIG kitties, look no further than Shoeshine. This 13-year-old boy is large and lazy, and that’s just the way we like him. Shoeshine is happiest when he’s sprawled out, lounging on a chair that of course, no one else is allowed to use. Shoeshine was rescued from a hoarding situation with many other cats, so he is a bit fearful especially with new people. He’s gotten much more comfortable with people during his time here, and we’ve discovered the key to his heart is a brush! He loves his whole body to be brushed and will lean his big head into you, curling his paws and slow blinking in feline bliss. He likes to set boundaries and will let you know when he’s had enough petting, so he’d like a home with kids 12 and up who will notice when he’s ready for some alone time. Shoeshine is neutered and up-to-date on all vaccinations. Right now all dogs and cats 6 months and older at SPCA of Texas' Dallas and Ellis County shelters and in foster are just $25 to adopt. To request an appointment to meet Shoeshine, please fill out the form at spca.org/catadopt

Week of Sept 2

simon and mrpopo

Meet Mr. Popo and Simon!

Meet Simon, a 9-year-old, male Great Dane mix. He’s a big fellow, with a red merle coat and a dazzling smile. Don’t let his age fool you, he still has the energy of a young lad! He came to the SPCA of Texas as a stray, so not much is known about his past, but he has shown what a big sweetheart he is while at the shelter. Simon is a fun dog who likes to live life moment to moment. He is always super excited to see his human friends and can get a bit jumpy, so he’ll need a home with kids 12 and up. Simon likes the simple things – jumping in mud puddles, playing tug-of-war and cuddling with his stuffed animals. Despite his age, Simon very much has the energy of a young pup, and will be happy to join you for brisk walks in the park and adventures. Simon can’t wait to meet his future humans and start keeping them on their toes. Right now, all dogs and cats 6 months and older are just $25 to adopt at the SPCA of Texas’ Dallas and Ellis locations. Simon is waiting to meet you at SPCA of Texas Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center.

Mr. Popo is a 9-year-old, tabby and white Domestic Shorthair mix. He came to the SPCA of Texas from a cruelty case, and while he has had a rough past, his future is looking bright! Mr. Popo is a sweet, gentle and shy boy who enjoys lounging in his hidey-bed and taking things slow. He’s looking for a cat lover who is willing to continue to work with him on his confidence and trust-building with humans. Once he warms up to you, Mr. Popo is very affectionate and LOVES to play with laser toys. He enjoys petting, watching cat videos on TV, using his scratching post and lots of naps, of course! Mr. Popo is FeLV positive, so he will need to be the only cat in the home or live with other FeLV positive kitties. The SPCA of Texas’ adoption counselors can tell you all about how to care for a special cat like him. Mr. Popo is eligible for a trial adoption, meaning you can take him home for a couple of weeks before making things official. Mr. Popo is currently waiting to meet you in a foster home. To schedule a time to meet Mr. Popo or learn more about him, please visit www.spca.org/catadopt.

 Week of August 25

pets-week-august-25

Meet Squash and Saffron!

Squash is a 9-year-old, 67-pound German Shepherd mix is a sweet old man who was transferred to the SPCA of Texas after being found as a stray in Ellis County. He’s generally a pretty chill pup, but he lights up when he sees one of his human friends coming. A human always means treats, walks, food or cuddles – all things very close to Squash’s heart. Squash gets a bit overwhelmed around other playful dogs, so the SPCA of Texas thinks he’d prefer a home with an older, calmer female dog for a companion, or to be the only dog in the home. Please bring any dogs in the home to your meet-and-greet with Squash. Squash is a smart, gentle pup who would love to be your couch buddy and join you for casual strolls through the neighborhood. He would do fine in any type of home or apartment, as long as there’s a nice big dog bed and plenty of treats. Squash is heartworm positive, but the SPCA of Texas covers his treatment at your local VCA Animal Hospital.  Squash is waiting to meet you at SPCA of Texas Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center.

 **UPDATE: SAFFRON WAS ADOPTED!***

Saffron is a 6-year-old Domestic Shorthair mix. Found darting through traffic at a busy intersection, we first thought Saffron was a community cat, so the SPCA of Texas planned to trap, neuter, vaccinate and release him to a safe environment. Saffron, however, had other plans. This sweet kitty made it very clear to the staff at the SPCA of Texas that he would prefer life as an inside cat! Saffron is FIV positive (don't worry - he can live a long and happy life with proper care) so he'd do best in a home with other FIV positive cats, or adopters with FIV negative cats who understand how transmission can occur. He makes feline friends easily, but he'd be ok as your only cat too. Saffron loves crunchy treats and ear scratches - he'll flop right over with happiness when you get that perfect spot! Saffron is as delicate and as special as his name suggests, but not nearly as expensive!

Adoption Fees

Right now, all dogs and cats 6 months and older are just $25 to adopt at the SPCA of Texas’ Dallas and Ellis County locations. Regular adoption fees are $150 for puppies and kittens aged 0-6 months and $75 for adult dogs and cats aged 6 months or older. Fee includes spay/neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, a heartworm test for dogs six months and older and a FIV/FeLV test for cats 4 months and older, initial flea/tick preventative and heartworm preventative, a microchip, 30 days of PetHealth Insurance provided by PetHealth, a free 14-day wellness exam with VCA Animal Hospitals, a rabies tag and a free leash.

The Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center is open for adoptions every day from noon to 6:00 PM. Animals are available by walk-in on a first-come, first-served basis. Appointments are also available for select animals.

COVID Safety Protocols

In an effort to reduce the potential for COVID-19 to spread to more people via gatherings of people and protect the health and well-being of the animals in their care, their staff and volunteers, as well as the community, the SPCA of Texas is following all appropriate CDC guidelines. The SPCA of Texas is requiring masks to be worn at all of their facilities.

Please browse available animals at spca.org/findapet and visit spca.org/dogadopt to inquire about a dog or spca.org/catadopt to inquire about a cat.
