If you want a future with a DeLorean DMC-12 in it, now is the time to get on it. The automaker building the replicas from Back to the Future movie fame now have a registration site open. You can go there to fill out a 2017 DeLorean Pre-Order Interest Application. Note, there is no price listed yet.
Last December the DeLorean Motor Company got the green light to begin making brand new look-alike DeLoreans. It was thanks to a 2015 law allowing small companies to make replica vintage vehicles.
Since then, there have been some delays, including waiting on the chassis due to a supply and demand issue. However, things should clear up soon with the parts set to arrive in November. The company is also apparently still on the hunt for an engine. But the automaker says not to worry. It will deliver the promised low-volume production run starting in 2017.
The low-volume DeLorean models will be built just outside of Houston. DMC says it will build one per month during the first 12 months of production. The second year it hopes to ramp that up to two per week.
The interest application includes filling out whether or not you would prefer manual or standard transmission. The sticker price remains blank. Also if you think you might change your mind in the future no biggie. The application serves purely as a market gauge. No commitment required.
Along with no price tag, we aren’t given a lot of details on the new models. The DMC does say they’re just like the one in Back to the Future. So much so that the new chassis will fit both new and original models.
